Mary Beth
Canty, Ph.D.
Mary Beth has been an educator in the Seattle area for over two decades where her former students have aged anywhere from kindergarten through graduate school. Prior to joining the Seattle Teacher Residency team, Mary Beth was the Recruitment & Retention Specialist for the Teacher Education/Preparation Programs at the University of Washington College of Education.
In 2016 Mary Beth earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington with a focus on teacher preparation. She was also the Field Director for the Elementary Teacher Prep Program, a Teaching Associate, and a Coach for the Elementary Teacher Prep Program at the University of Washington. Mary Beth’s focus has been, and continues to be, centering BIPOC voices and experiences in education at large, and teacher preparation specifically.
Mary Beth’s interests beyond work are indoor rock climbing, cooking and eating delicious food, enjoying wine, and spending time with friends and family. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Technology Access Foundation, an educational non-profit organization based in the Seattle area. Mary Beth and her partner are the proud parents of an SPS graduate and dog.
